I've lived in and around Chicago long enough to know that old buildings and extreme weather make for a pest control education you can't get out of a textbook. Three-flats with a century of settling, basements that flood every spring, alleys full of trash cans nobody seals right - this city gives pests plenty of openings, and it's given me plenty of chances to learn what actually works to shut those openings down.
I'm not an exterminator and I don't hold a pest control license. What I am is someone who's dealt with landlords who won't call anyone, DIY fixes that backfired, and the occasional rat problem nobody wants to bring up at dinner. I write about pest control the way I'd talk about it over the fence: plainly, without the sales pitch, and with an eye toward what's realistic for people living in Chicago's housing stock.
This site is where I put that experience into plain language, so you can figure out what's worth doing yourself and when it's time to call in a professional. If you've got questions, you can reach the site at (312) 675-2299.
